Review: Colossus by Cyclops Vapor

If you are unfamiliar with Cyclops Vapor, let’s just say these guys are at the top of their game when it comes to making quality e-liquid. Everything is done in a state-of-the-art lab under super controlled conditions. This e-liquid review will explain more.

Before we get into what you should expect from juice like this, I want to touch on the differences, from a culinary perspective, about exactly what a custard is. I often hear people say it’s just the British word for what Americans call pudding. While the two may share some similarities, that’s not entirely true. Desserts tend to use a starch as the thickening agent where custards use eggs. The result is very similar in texture, but due to the egg in the custard, and the method of slowly cooking the egg to firm up the mixture, the flavor profile of custard tends to be more complicated than starch-thickened puddings. Nose

The specific flavor of Colossus is quite difficult to describe unless you’re fortunate enough to have tasted the nectar directly from a flower. As a child, I would often stop at my neighbor’s honeysuckle bushes on walks to school with my siblings so we could pick the flowers. We would gently pull the center pistil from the blossom, and sample the sweet, pure honeysuckle essence straight from the source. The flavor is practically addicting, and as a result, it wasn’t a particularly rare occurrence that we would hear the school bell ring off in the distance, as we stood in the same spot, with a small pile of drained honeysuckle flowers at our feet. The clean, creamy, natural tasting vanilla and the decadent flavors of the custard hit you as soon as you open the bottle up. To me, the combination almost makes a peanut butter kind of smell, but a little bit sweeter. Right underneath that layer is just a hint of bourbon.

Inhale

The first flavor that hit me was the natural tasting vanilla and custard, which was very prominent on the inhale. You’d think it would be overwhelmingly sweet, but it isn’t. The almond balances it out quite nicely so that the sweetness isn’t overpowering. It inhales smoothly and has a mild throat hit that I haven’t felt on any other juice. You feel it in your throat, but it isn’t rough or harsh at all.

Exhale

Smooth, soft exhale with creamy vanilla, with just a slight bit of bourbon at the back of the throat. Right as you exhale you get the full force of vanilla and brown sugar. Those two flavors are easily the most prominent and are present at every stage of the juice. It lingers on the tongue for quite a while after the exhale.

Vapor Texture

The texture is a little thin, and the clouds don’t stay for too long, most likely due to the 35/65 PG to VG ratio found in all Cyclops Vapor juices, which cannot be customized. Not the liquid to use when cloud chasing, but then again why would you want to? It tastes too good to use up that fast, and it’s premium vape juice, so it’s a little on the expensive side.

Pros

The dominant flavor is balanced very well. Not too sweet, not too rough on the throat. Juice to savor and can easily be an all-day vape.

Cons

You can’t customize your PG/VG ratios, so if you are sensitive to PG, then this is might not the juice for you. The bottles as of right now are also only sold in 30mL sizes. At close to $13.99 a bottle, you have to be sure you like the flavor before dishing out that kind of cash for a bottle. Make sure you sample it first!

Afterthoughts

This was my first experience with a Cyclops Vapor e-juice, and I was pleasantly surprised. I prefer a high VG to PG ratio, but I was impressed with how smooth of a vape it is, even at a 35/65 ratio. Overall, Colossus made a great first experience for me with Cyclops Vapor e-juice, and I want to check out more of their product line. It’s one of the most reasonable price juice brands on the market, where you don’t need to pay for premium quality e-juice. The slight nutty undertone of cooked milk and a mild caramelized sugar tone accompanies the unmistakable soft, velvety, custard taste. The fullness of the vape’s hit, and vapor production truly stands out, giving e-cig users an excellent vape every time. Give it a try!
